The gold award 4 star holiday cottage at Town End Cottage is part of a 17th century Westmorland stone farm house. The cottage is full of character and there are beams, low ceilings, stone floors and other traditional features, blended with stylish modern luxuries. At the entrance there is a paved seating area (to the rear of the house in the picture on the right) with exceptional views of the surrounding valley and to the lake district mounatins.
Lifting the traditional latches to the original boarded cottage doors reveals three contemporary cottage bedrooms: two with large comfortable double beds with sumptuous king size bedding, and the third with childrens' bunk-beds.
The slate tiled floor and stylish fittings of the large modern bathroom blend well with the traditional bedrooms and provide relaxing luxury with both bath and separate shower cubicle.
All of the rooms are full of character but are also modern light and airy, and have superb views of the surrounding valley and the lake district mountains.
A slate floored entrance hall leads into the open plan living and dining rooms with their beamed ceilings, wood burning stove and comfortable contemporary furnishings. There is also traditional Rayburn which provides heating and hot water. A large flat screen TV has FreeSat channels from Sky, and there are DVD, VHS. and CD/cassette players.
The modern kitchen has beams and the original Westmorland flagstones, but with the luxury of an electric cooker with ceramic hob and oven, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and microwave.
Just off the entrance porch there is a fabulous wetroom with w/c and wash basin, perfect for an invigourating shower after arriving home from a day on the fells.
By the entrance to the cottage, there is a paved seating area with the most outstanding views over the beautiful Winster Valley towards Fairfield Horseshoe. In other areas of the farm gardens, there are several peaceful sitting places.
The traditional wash-house has washing machine, tumble dryer, iron and ironing board, and cleaning equipment.
Ample parking is available and there are secure storage areas e.g. for cycles.
This is a traditional small farm of great character and charm, situated on the side of a fabulous and secluded valley.
